Feyenoord has decided to partially close a number of sections during European matches. The Rotterdam club hopes to avoid new fines from UEFA and thus takes a limited capacity into the bargain. According to RTV Rijnmond it concerns five courses that are partly completed. Feyenoord has been reprimanded several times by the European Football Association this season for failing to comply with the safety rules.

Feyenoord’s fine has already risen considerably this season, as it was the third time against IF Elfsborg that the club was fined by UEFA for violating the ‘UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary body’. During the duel with Elfsborg, supporters blocked the stairs and fireworks were set off in De Kuip. Even after the matches against FC Drita and FC Luzern, Feyenoord was fined because supporters blocked the stairs. The total amount of fines for the home games in the preliminary rounds of the Conference League alone is now 69,250 euros.

The club has subsequently decided to partially close the courses R, S, T, X and W, please know RTV Rijnmond. Between the sections R, S and T it is possible for supporters to switch to other sections. Due to the crowds that this creates, supporters take a seat on the stairs. And the latter is in violation of UEFA’s safety regulations. By partially closing the boxes, Feyenoord hopes not to be fined by the European Football Association in the future. The capacity will be reduced by the measure from 47,000 to between 42,000 and 45,000 seats.

Feyenoord will play at least three European home games this season, given the participation in the group stage of the Conference League. On September 30, Slavia Prague will be the first opponent in De Kuip. Three weeks later, the German 1. FC Union Berlin comes to Rotterdam, to close the group stage on December 9 with a home match against Maccabi Haifa. Feyenoord played a 0-0 draw in Israel on Tuesday. Slavia and Union Berlin will meet in the Czech Republic on Thursday evening.
