Bayern Munich have started the new season in the Champions League with a convincing victory over Barcelona. In the Camp Nou was of the Rekordmeister Tuesday evening 0-3 too strong: Thomas Müller opened the score and Robert Lewandowski scored the other two goals. It is a painful defeat for Ronald Koeman, who let Luuk de Jong make his debut. Dynamo Kiev and Benfica drew 0-0; in stoppage time, a goal by the Ukrainians was disallowed.

Barcelona – Bayern Munich 0-3
For the first time since April 2003 (Michael Reiziger, Frank de Boer, Marc Overmars and Patrick Kluivert), Barcelona started a Champions League match with at least three Dutchmen. Luuk de Jong formed a duo with Memphis Depay in the vanguard, because players such as Ousmane Dembélé, Sergio Aguero, Ansu Fati and Martin Braithwaite were not available for various reasons. Frenkie de Jong started in midfield. Bayern’s first serious chance of scoring was after eighteen minutes, when Leroy Sané took the ball out of the air from inside the penalty area and Marc-André ter Stegen saved.

After 26 minutes, Barcelona barely survived a perilous moment in their own box after Jamal Musiala steamed up threateningly. The 0-1, however, hung in the air and actually fell after 33 minutes. A long shot from Müller was changed by Eric García, who turned his back to the ball and then hit it, leaving Ter Stegen no chance. Six minutes after the break, Ter Stegen prevented Sané from making it 0-2, but a few minutes later, Bayern managed to double the margin.

It was Lewandowski who gave the visitors a more comfortable lead. A bet by Alphonso Davies was blocked, after which Musiala hit the post from the edge of the penalty area and Lewandowski struck in third instance. Five minutes before the end, Bayern scored in a similar way. A shot by Serge Gnabry hit the post, after which Lewandowski got the ball in the penalty area. He outplayed Gerard Pique and pressed from close range. As a result, Barcelona suffered another painful home defeat to Bayern, thirteen months after the 2-8 defeat that led to the departure of Quique Setien and the appointment of Koeman.

Dynamo Kyiv – Benfica 0-0
After ten minutes Mykola Shaparenko created the first serious danger. The number 10 of Dynamo was allowed to take a free kick just outside the penalty area and looked for the top left corner. Goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, who was already the star against PSV in the last preliminary round, tapped the ball over the bar. Nevertheless, Benfica controlled the match. The visitors had 67 percent of the ball in the first half, without creating great chances. Ten minutes after the break, Roman Yaremchuk had a good opportunity from the penalty area, but goalkeeper Denys Boyko prevented Dynamo from falling behind. It appeared to be 0-0, but in stoppage time Shaparenko shot at the crossbar and scored moments later, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
