Jorn Brondeel had to play to the side with a red card after fifteen minutes against NEC on Sunday afternoon. The goalkeeper of Willem II came out of his goal when Jonathan Okita had free passage to the goal of the Tilburgers. Brondeel came outside his penalty area and made hands, which meant a premature end to the game in De Goffert for him. Trainer Fred van Grim was forced to call on Connor van den Berg, who was only twenty years old, Willem II’s fourth goalkeeper.

Brondeel was sent off with a red card after 14 minutes and 41 seconds. Never before has a player from Willem II been sent away so quickly after kick-off. Due to injuries, Grim cannot call on the experienced goalkeepers Timon Wellenreuther and Robbin Ruiter. This gave the youthful and inexperienced Van den Berg a place on the bench at the Tricolores. Grim spoke about the goalkeeper situation at Willem II prior to the meeting with NEC on Sunday. Ruiter got off to a dramatic start to the season and was soon replaced by Wellenreuther. As a result, it speculated Brabants Dagblad even about the contract termination of Ruiter, who was left out of the match selection against Vitesse.

The handball that gave Jorn Brondeel a red card against NEC.

Reporter Cristian Willaert wants to know whether Grim does not think it is a shame how things have gone in the field of goalkeepers in recent weeks. “It’s all like if”, Grim replies at ESPN. “Robbin has also been injured for a week at the moment, so it makes sense. Jorn trains very well, is our second man. The moment something happens to Timon, Jorn goes on it.” Willaert then wants to know if Ruiter is really injured or if his absence has something to do with the disappointment of Grim’s passing. The trainer doesn’t seem to really appreciate that question. “I give serious answers to questions, so you will have to take them that way,” said the coach of the visiting team from Tilburg. “
