Dani Alves has played his last game for São Paulo. The 38-year-old right-back has come into conflict with the Brazilian club over a salary payment he must receive and has decided not to return. According to Brazilian media, it concerns an amount of almost two million euros.

Alves said goodbye to top European football at Paris Saint-Germain two years ago and signed a contract with São Paulo. The right-back was last week with the Brazilian team, which played three games in the World Cup qualifying cycle. He informed São Paulo that he would not return until his outstanding bill with the club was settled.

“We recognize that we are indebted to Alves,” general manager Carlos Belmonte said in a video message posted on social media. “We made an offer to Alves last week to change that, but that proposal was not accepted by his representatives. We then informed our trainer Hernán Crespo that Dani Alves no longer plays for São Paulo.”

Alves still had a contract for a year and a half until December 31, 2022. The former player of Barcelona and Juventus, among others, made a total of 95 official games for São Paulo, in which he scored 9 times and provided 14 assists. The right-back dreams of going to the World Cup in Qatar next summer with Brazil and will therefore look for a new club.
