Excelsior is the new leader of the Kitchen Champion Division after the fifth round. The team from Rotterdam won 3-1 against FC Dordrecht and saw Jong AZ suffer the first loss (0-1) of the season against Jong FC Utrecht. Jong PSV defeated Jong Ajax at the same time, which took the lead in the first half. Partly due to a goal from debutant Dante Sealy, the Eindhoven team completely turned the game around: 3-1. FC Emmen recorded a 7-1 victory over MVV Maastricht, partly thanks to a world goal by Azzeddine Toufiqui, while FC Volendam scored 0-3 on a visit to De Graafschap.

Young PSV – Young Ajax 3-1
The first real chance was immediately hit on De Herdgang. Naci Ünüvar – much talked about last week after he was sent off from the the Dutch Under-19 – found the continued Youri Regeer within the penalty area with a nice pass. The captain of Jong Ajax took the ball with his shoulder and then finished off coolly. The second half was only thirty seconds old when Nigel Thomas repaired the damage suffered in the first half for Jong PSV with a header. The team from Eindhoven then completely turned the game around with a nice assist from Emmanuel van de Blaak and a goal from Dante Sealy, the striker who was taken over from FC Dallas and made his debut for Jong PSV. Johan Bakayoko decided the game twelve minutes before the end, by scoring the 3-1 in the short corner.

Young AZ – Young FC Utrecht 0-1
Jong AZ started the meeting with Jong FC Utrecht without losing points and could have quickly taken the lead. After eleven minutes of play, the ball was already in the net after a striking bang from Ernest Poku. However, the goal was disallowed because the corner kick was taken too early before the goal. It took until minute 56 before a goal was actually scored, when Nick Venema opened the score on behalf of Jong FC Utrecht with his head. Jong AZ was still close to the equalizer in the final phase, but a bet by Yusuf Barasi was taken off the line. It meant that Jong FC Utrecht handed the Alkmaar promises the first defeat of the season.

Excelsior FC Dordrecht 3-1
In an unspectacular initial phase, the first danger came in the regional derby between Excelsior and FC Dordrecht of Reuven Niemeijer. Yet it was the visitors who surprisingly took the lead in Kralingen. Stijn Meijer found Nikolas Agrafiotis, who jabbed the ball against the ropes. After a collision between Excelsior goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel and his own defender Nikita Vlasenko, Meijer had the 0-2 on his shoe, but he just lifted the ball over. Immediately after the break, Excelsior straightened the score. Marouan Azarkan took possession of the ball after a defensive fumbling and scored convincingly. A dry push from Julian Baas gave Excelsior the 2-1 lead after an hour of play. After Azarkan hit the bar, Thijs Dallinga determined the final score at 3-1.

De Graafschap – FC Volendam 0-3
De Graafschap already defeated NAC Breda and FC Emmen and once again received a promotion candidate with FC Volendam. The best chances were for the home team in the first phase, but FC Volendam took the lead shortly before half-time. Robert Mühren served Gaetano Oristanio, who tapped the ball past Hidde Jurjus. Even before the break, Daryl van Mieghem doubled the margin against his old club. Early in the second half, the decision seemed to fall on De Vijverberg. Julian Lelieveld committed a foul on Martijn Kaars, after which referee Dennis Higler put the ball on the spot. Mühren hit from eleven meters. In the remainder of the second half, De Graafschap was unable to bring the tension back to the game.

TOP Oss – ADO The Hague 3-3
The game in the Frans Heesen Stadium was only seven minutes old when there were already two goals on the scoreboard. Thomas Verheydt opened the score on behalf of the visitors on a pass from Sem Steijn, after which Rick Stuy van den Herik also quickly tied the score with a header. Halfway through the first half, ADO took the lead again, when Samy Bourard tapped in from close range. Before half time, Kaj Tejan brought TOP Oss again next to ADO with a hit shot from the edge of the penalty area. With one hour on the clock, TOP Oss took the lead for the first time with Stuy van den Herik’s second goal. Substitute Dhoraso Moreo Klas gave ADO another point four minutes before the end with a striking bang, by scoring the 3-3. Despite the visitors still having great opportunities, the spectacular game did not get any more goals.

FC Emmen – MVV Maastricht 7-1
In the initial phase it seemed to be waiting for a goal from FC Emmen, but it was MVV that took the lead after 22 minutes of play. Captain Sven Blummel curled a free kick very freely in the top left corner behind goalkeeper Michael Brouwer. The fact that FC Emmen equalized with 35 minutes on the clock via Jeredy Hilterman was partly due to poor goalkeeping by Tijmen Nijhuis. The MVV goalkeeper had to fish again shortly afterwards after a shot by Rui Mendes.

FC Emmen also came 3-1 before half time, after an absolute world goal by Azzeddine Toufiqui. He sent the ball with the inside of his left foot into the right corner behind the hopeless Nijhuis. All MVV aspirations for the second half were thrown into the trash after four minutes, when Mendes headed the 4-1 against the ropes. It wasn’t over yet, because Mendes also took his third goal of the evening after a fantastic pass from Peter van Ooijen. In the final phase FC Emmen ran out to a monster score. Hilterman signed for the 6-1, after which substitute Ben Scholte took care of the final chord.

Telstar – Almere City FC 1-1
Bradly van Hoeven got a double chance on behalf of Almere City early in the game, but first shot at goalkeeper Ronald Koeman junior and then at the crossbar. Telstar saw a header goal rejected in the first half because Almere goalkeeper Michael Woud was hindered by a corner. Shortly after the break, Almere City took the lead. A cross from Bram van Vlerken was headed in at the far post by Lance Duijvestijn, who was lucky that Koeman made a flashy mistake: 0-1. Twenty minutes before the end, Telstar came back, when Rein Smit was able to tap in the rebound from close by after a hard shot by Rashaan Fernandes: 1-1.

VVV Venlo – FC Den Bosch 2-1
Carl Johansson came close to scoring twice in the opening phase by coming in from the left. First his shot sailed over, then he encountered FC Den Bosch goalkeeper Wouter van der Steen. A downer for Den Bosch was that Hornkamp, the club’s top scorer with twenty goals last season, had to leave the field injured after a collision with VVV goalkeeper Lukas Zima. Substitute Erik Sorga just failed to give VVV the lead after a pass from Yahcuroo Roemer, after which Den Bosch did score on the other side from a quick counter. Ricardo Kip gave a thoughtful cross pass to Roy Kuijpers, who finished in a controlled manner: 0-1. Yahcuroo Roemer brought VVV back in the final phase by coming in from the left and finding the far corner: 1-1. VVV even managed to win in injury time thanks to Brian Koglin, who placed a free kick in the top corner: 2-1.

Roda JC Kerkrade – NAC Breda 0-0
Although both teams were fairly evenly matched in the first half, the only danger came from Roda JC. Anthony Limbombe cleverly took the ball in the build-up of NAC and passed it to Dylan Vente. A potentially life-size opportunity, but the ball came behind Roda’s striker. After the break, NAC appeared dangerously for the first time. First Odysseus Velanas saw a dangerous attempt ricochet, then Jarchinio Antonia didn’t hit the ball well in the volley. Ralf Seuntjens also became threatening with a placed shot, which was barely stopped by Rody de Boer.
