Ajax will most likely have to do without Davy Klaassen in the away match against PEC Zwolle on Saturday evening, reports The Telegraph based on sources within the club. The attacking midfielder returned from the Dutch national team with minor groin complaints. Klaassen will almost certainly miss the match in Zwolle as a precaution with a view to the group match in the Champions League against Sporting Portugal in Lisbon next Wednesday.

Ajax recently submitted a request to the KNVB to move the match from Saturday to Sunday due to the travel schedule of a number of internationals. The newspaper reports that this request was submitted before Klaassen’s minor complaints were known. The football association has not granted this request. Ajax only saw Mexican international Edson Álvarez return from his international obligations on Thursday afternoon, while Erik ten Hag did not see Argentine internationals Lisandro Martínez and Nicolás Tagliafico return until Friday afternoon.

Ten Hag applies the rule at Ajax that players must experience his final training in order to be allowed to play. As a result, the newspaper considers it likely that the two Argentinians will not start from the base against the team of trainer Art Langeler on Saturday evening. Devyne Rensch may start as left back and Daley Blind will start centrally in the rear. Steven Berghuis, David Neres and Dusan Tadic seem to be eligible for Klaassen’s position. Mohammed Kudus is not fit yet.

The Telegraph further reports that Ajax will appear in the third uniform on Saturday evening. The club wanted to play in the home kit, but the KNVB rejected that request because the kit of PEC Zwolle has more white this season than in recent years. Because Ajax’s away kit is blue, the ‘Bob Marley kit’ is chosen against the Zwolle players.
