Filip Kostic is threatened with a fine of no less than 100,000 euros, as we know BILD to be revealed on Thursday. The attacking midfielder refused to train at Eintracht Frankfurt after the failed transfer to Lazio. According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the German club deliberately gave Lazio a wrong email address, as a result of which the bid for Kostic never arrived in Frankfurt. Since then, club and player have been diametrically opposed.

Kostic did not appear at Frankfurt training due to the email incident and missed the league match against Arminia Bielefeld (1-1) last weekend. However, technical director Markus Krösche now claims that things are a bit more nuanced. According to him, Lazio simply could not meet the asking price of 15 million euros for Kostic. “It is our task to guarantee the financial and sporting stability of the club,” it said in a response BILD.

The rift between Frankfurt and Kostic is not yet final, but the former FC Groningen midfielder has to take a hefty sanction into account. BILD mentions a fine of 100,000 euros. In addition, Kostic will probably miss the next competition match with VfB Stuttgart on September 12. “I seriously question his strange behaviour,” Krösche continues. “That’s not how you treat each other, it’s that simple. Filip actually owes a lot to Frankfurt.”

At Lazio, they have now put a line through the Kostic story. “I don’t want to say anything more about it,” technical director Igli Tare said in the Italian media. “There’s no point in going on about it anymore. We would have loved to bring in Filip Kostic, but that is now a thing of the past. We wish Eintracht Frankfurt and the player all the best for the future.” There is little chance that Lazio will ever return for Kostic. “I don’t think so,” Tare concluded.
