Brian Brobbey wants to score 12 to 15 goals at RB Leipzig this season. The nineteen-year-old striker has set himself that number for his first crop in Germany. The attacker who came over from Ajax also wants to stunt in the Champions League. Leipzig is classified in a group with Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Club Brugge.

Brobbey injured his hamstring in May and has since recovered. So far, he has played 34 minutes in the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal. In conversation with the General Newspaper he let us know that he still has to get used to the playing style of trainer Jesse March. “It is different than at Ajax. Here a striker is expected to keep making sprints in the depth. At Ajax I sometimes did that, but here they expect that continuously. Football in the Bundesliga is tougher and faster. I’m being prepared for that.”

Leipzig took over Brobbey transfer-free from Ajax, while it paid 23 million euros for André Silva. Despite competition from Portuguese and Danish attacker Yussuf Poulsen, Brobbey feels the trainer’s confidence. The striker says he wants to play a lot, be important with goals and contribute to winning a prize. “I have set myself the goal of scoring at least 12 to 15 goals.” Brobbey doesn’t care about the competition. “That’s no problem. I know my qualities. If the opportunity comes, I will be there.”

In the Champions League, PSG and City are the favorites in the group with Leipzig and Club Brugge. “Noa (Lang, ed.) and I joked that we were going to compete for the Europa League. That was also the case at the club,” said Brobbey, who nevertheless does not go for third place in the group. Leipzig wants to spend the winter in the Champions League. “Leipzig also beat PSG once last season. We are a young group and we go through fire for each other. Then a lot is possible. The trainer also said that these are the top matches and not those in the Europa League.” Leipzig will start the Champions League season on Wednesday, September 15 with an away game against Manchester City.
