Myron Boadu made the switch from AZ to AS Monaco in the past transfer period. The striker signed a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 club. He was also linked to OGC Nice in the corridors, but the employer of Justin Kluivert, Pablo Rosario and Calvin Stengs, among others, was never a serious option. Cesc Fàbregas heard about the rumor about Nice and thought Boadu might go to that club, the attacker tells the NOS.

Monaco paid seventeen million euros for the twenty-year-old attacker. On arrival in Monaco, Boadu spoke at the club with his new teammate Fàbregas. “He knew who I was and asked if I would come to Monaco because he thought I was going to Nice. I reassured him and said that I would just come to Monaco,” said Boadu. “In retrospect you might think: wow, I met Fabregas, but at a time like that it’s just your teammate.”

The contract until mid-2026 and a starting spot against Nantes two days after his presentation express a lot of confidence. Boadu has played three of his four league games so far, although he is still waiting for his first goal for Monaco. “The story of AS Monaco appealed to me. I heard through Max (Huiberts, technical director AZ, ed.) that they were interested and less than half an hour later my agent called that Monaco was interested,” says Boadu. “They see a lot of potential in me. They said she missed another player like me. So now it’s up to me to show that I really am.”

With players like Wissam Ben Yedder and Kevin Volland, Boadu has stiff competition for a spot in the attacking point. “That’s why I made this step to a top club. I wanted to have better players around me and compete with them. I don’t think so: they are better in advance. I’m there to show myself right away.” Boadu reported to Jong Oranje this week. On Tuesday 7 September, Erwin van de Looi’s team will compete against Young Moldova as part of the European Championship qualification.
