Nick Viergever is on the eve of his first foreign adventure. Football International and the Eindhovens Dagblad know to report that the 32-year-old centre-back is close to a switch to the German Greuther Fürth. Viergever was also associated with Feyenoord last week, but not everyone within the Rotterdam club would have been convinced.

PSV demanded an amount of 200,000 euros for Viergever’s ongoing contract until mid-2022. Greuther Fürth now seems to have complied with this, as according to the Eindhovens Dagblad be paid ‘several tons’. Viergever was given the space to complete a transfer on the final day of the transfer window. PSV played a practice match against Jong PSV on Tuesday, but Viergever was given permission to leave the club earlier.

After the transfer-free Jetro Willems taken over from Eintracht Frankfurt and Justin Hoogma, who was hired from 1899 TSG Hoffenheim, Viergever can become the third Dutchman at the club that has been promoted to the Bundesliga. With one point from three games, Greuther Fürth has not started the season in the Bundesliga very well.

Viergever was taken over from Ajax transfer-free by PSV in 2018 and previously wore the shirt of Sparta Rotterdam and AZ. He did not miss a league game that first season and also played almost everything in the following year 2019/20. Since the arrival of Roger Schmidt, however, the routine has had to make do with a supporting role, because the trainer usually chooses Olivier Boscagli. Since this season, Armando Obispo has also been above Viergever in the pecking order at PSV. The latter is on 104 official duels for the Eindhoven team, in which he scored 3 times and provided 1 assist.
