The duel between Fortuna Sittard and RKC Waalwijk did not get a winner on Friday evening. Both teams took the lead once in Sittard, but after ninety minutes of football there was a 2-2 final score on the scoreboard. On the side of the home team, Mats Seuntjens was the big man with a goal and an assist, while Michiel Kramer provided two hits on behalf of RKC.

Fortuna was free last week, because the game with AZ was postponed due to the European obligations of the Alkmaarders. RKC won against AZ a week earlier, but then suffered its first defeat of the season against sc Heerenveen. Against the still unbeaten Fortuna, the first chance was for RKC, when Saïd Bakari was given the space to lash out and the ball curled along the wrong side of the post. However, after 23 minutes of play, the home side took the lead.

A pass from Mats Seuntjens reached Samy Baghdadi, who escaped his direct opponents after a nice run and scored convincingly. RKC gradually tried to come back into the game during the first half and showed themselves threatening at corner kicks, but saw that the best opportunities then came via Zian Flemming and Tesfaldet Tekie for Fortuna. However, a corner kick resulted in the equalizer just before half time. Goalkeeper Yanick van Osch saved on a header from Ahmed Touba, but had no chance on Michiel Kramer’s rebound.

The first opportunity of the second half was for Vurnon Anita, who pulled the trigger after a scrimmage and saw his shot turned. With 55 minutes on the clock, RKC took the lead. Van Osch initially encountered Richard van der Venne, after which the ball ended up at Jens Odgaard. He found Kramer in the goal mouth, who headed his second goal of the evening against the ropes. Trainer Sjors Ultee then brought in Toshio Lake and Ben Rienstra. Rienstra made his official return for Fortuna after being sidelined for a while, because a heart defect was discovered in him.

With 68 minutes on the clock, Fortuna tied the score again. Tekie served Seuntjens, who with the outside of the foot beat the outgoing goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen. Seuntjens was still close to the winning goal with a shot into the side net, but there was no change in the tie. Fortuna and RKC thus both raise their points total to four and thus occupy a place in the middle: the Limburgers are currently number six in the Eredivisie, while the team of trainer Joseph Oosting is two places lower.
