Borussia Dortmund secured a last-minute victory over TSG Hoffenheim on Friday evening. The team of coach Marco Rose saw Hoffenheim come to 2-2 in the last minute of the official playing time, but in the first minute of injury time Erling Braut Haaland made it 3-2. The discharge was enormous with the striker, who ensured that his team took the lead overnight with six points from three matches.

Donyell Malen had a base place at Dortmund and was on the field for 84 minutes. He reported a few times with shots, but was not directly involved in the goals. The tone was set in the match after ten seconds, when Christoph Baumgartner placed his arm in Axel Witsel’s face and received a yellow card. It was the second-earliest card ever in the Bundesliga, after the yellow card for Florian Niederlechner on behalf of SC Freiburg against 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the 2016/17 season (eight seconds). In the third minute Sebastian Rudy tipped the ball into the penalty area towards Andrej Kramaric, who came out over Giovanni Reyna and headed diagonally against the left post.

On the other side, Reyna appeared after preparatory work by Haaland for goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, but under pressure from a defender, the American was unable to produce a hard shot. A header from Manuel Akanji ended up in the hands of Baumann. It was a lively start, with the necessary chances and fouls. Halfway through the first half, Thomas Meunier had a serious shooting opportunity, but Hoffenheim’s defense blocked the shot; Marco Reus then shot high over Baumann’s goal.

A header opportunity for Haaland did not result in a goal either, while goalkeeper Gregor Kobel on the other side prevented a rare chance for Hoffenheim from producing a goal via Baumgartner. Dortmund opened the scoring shortly after the start of the second half: Giovanni Reyna, already in his fiftieth Bundesliga game at 18, got the ball on the edge of the penalty area, acted quickly and found the right corner. Shortly afterwards, Kobel saved a shot by Andrej Kramaric, but it still became 1-1 via Baumgartner. Hoffenheim’s midfielder received the ball in Dennis Geiger’s penalty area and shot hard, diagonally into the left corner.

A long shot from Malen was then taken from the corner by Baumann and Akanji missed a great opportunity, before Jude Bellingham controlled the ball with the thigh into the penalty area and found the left corner. Malen then encountered Baumann again in the short corner. In the last minute Hoffenheim came alongside via Munas Dabbur, who got the ball in front of a corner, but in stoppage time Haaland fired from close range after several consecutive shots.
