Ajax is linked to Sporting Portugal, Borussia Dortmund and Besiktas in the draw for the group stage of the Champions League on Thursday evening. The Amsterdammers are classified in Group C and seem to be able to speak of a favorable draw.
In the draw, Ajax was placed in pot 3 on the basis of its club coefficient. Sporting was in pot 1 as the champion of Portugal, while Dortmund and Besiktas came from pots 2 and 4. The group stage matches will be played on Tuesday September 14 and Wednesday September 15, September 28/29, October 19/20, November 2/3, November 23/24 and December 7/8. The final is on Saturday 28 May in Saint Petersburg.
The draw seems favorable for Ajax, because on paper in particular in pots 1 and 2 there were much stronger teams than Sporting and Dortmund. For example, the Eredivisionist avoids clubs such as Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Atlético Madrid and Internazionale from the highest pot and teams such as Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain from pot 2. Besiktas is on paper one of the strongest teams in pot 4, where AC Milan was also in it.
