The seriousness of Marcos Senesi’s injury is not yet clear. The defender of Feyenoord suffered from his left thigh in the fourth minute of the game against Go Ahead Eagles (2-0 win) on Sunday. He played the ball back to goalkeeper Justin Bijlow without pressure from an opponent and immediately experienced pain. Arne Slot expects more clarity on Monday.

After a short treatment by the medical staff, it turned out that Senesi could not continue playing. Wouter Burger came in as his replacement. “He himself just said that it was not that bad, that it was not very serious, but players always say that immediately after a game”, Slot responds in front of the camera of ESPN. “We’ll have to see tomorrow how he came out of today’s game. But it’s often not a good sign when you drop out so quickly. Marcos is an important player who played all the games last year. We were already one kinda assumed he would do that again this season. But hey, it still can. Let’s see how he comes out of the game.”

Reporter Pascal Kamperman then asks Slot to what extent it matters who is on the right in the center of the defense, because Gernot Trauner makes a calm impression on the left in the center. “It does matter, otherwise I would have drafted Wouter or Ramon (Hendriks, ed.)”, Slot responds. The choice fell on Burger when Senesi got injured. “The choice for Wouter was not that complicated, because Ramon Hendriks had played ninety minutes with the Under-21 yesterday. Wouter filled it in well, except for one moment in the first half, when he wanted to let the ball run over the back line. That was a decent opportunity for Go Ahead.”

Slot had to replace Burger with Hendriks five minutes before the end. “The boys both completed it well. Wouter had to get off with a cramp, so we still had to choose Ramon,” said Slot. Hans Kraay junior expressed his concerns about the well-being of Senesi during the break of the match. The images of his injury allowed the analyst of ESPN not appealing. “I can’t imagine it’s a bit of a mess. It shoots in. I can’t imagine you recovering from that in four or five days. If he were to make it to Thursday’s match against IF Elfsborg, that would be a minor medical miracle to me.”
