Virgil van Dijk is dethroned as the highest paid player at Liverpool, know The Athletic. The defender, who recently extended his contract with the Reds, will be surpassed in the short term by Mohamed Salah. Liverpool have begun negotiations with the Egyptian forward and are looking to make him the highest paid player in the club’s history with a new two-year deal.

Van Dijk has not been able to enjoy his status as the highest paid player at Liverpool for a long time, as he signed his new contract until mid-2025 just a week ago. Salah, whose current contract runs until the summer of 2023, will soon also have a contract until 2025. In addition, the Egyptian must become the highest-earning player. Know exactly what salary it concerns The Athletic not, but it is certain that Van Dijk is currently earning more than 250,000 euros per week. Salah has to make do with more than 230,000 euros a week.

Salah is still seen as Liverpool’s most important player and can therefore look forward to an improved contract. The 29-year-old striker has scored 126 goals for Liverpool to date and provided 49 assists since coming from Roma in the summer of 2017. Salah immediately impressed Liverpool with 44 goals in his debut season. Last season he finished on the top scorers list behind Harry Kane with 22 goals. The Tottenham Hotspur striker was accurate once more and finished on 23 goals.

Liverpool is busy in the background on the contract extensions of some permanent employees. Trend Alexander-Arnold was the first to scribble under a new contract at the end of July, followed not much later by Fabinho. Goalkeeper Alisson is also fixed with a new contract until mid-2027. The players now at the top of the list are captain Jordan Henderson, who has signed a new three-year deal, and Sadio Mane, who must continue to join his friend Salah at the forefront.
