Timon Wellenreuther returns temporarily to Willem II. The keeper is rented from Anderlecht until the end of the season, where he signed a contract more than a year ago. Willem II was looking for a keeper because Robbin Ruiter did not make an impression during the preparation and in the first competition match. Second goalkeeper Jorn Brondeel and third keeper Connor van den Berg are not yet considered suitable for the big job by Fred Grim and his staff.

Wellenreuther, 25, was in the stands last Sunday at the home game against Feyenoord (0-4 loss) and was also spotted in the Koning Willem II Stadium on Tuesday. “It feels great to be here again. I know the road, the people and I have a very good feeling about the club and this deal. I was there as a spectator on Sunday and got a really special feeling when I saw the KingSide and the other supporters jumping and singing again en masse. I really missed that,” Wellenreuther says on the club site.

Wellenreuther played 27 games for Anderlecht last season. Before his departure to Belgium, he played 77 games for Willem II in three seasons. “Especially in his last year, Wellenreuther was a regular star and points packer,” emphasizes the Tilburg club on Wednesday morning. Fourteen months after his departure, Wellenreuther is back in the old nest. He hopes to revive old times. “In my last year we reached European football. Getting Europe is not exactly my expectation for next season, but the way we played then and achieved results would be nice to aspire to.”

“Obviously we know Timon and his goalkeeping qualities well. With those qualities and his experience, he is an added value for our selection. We warmly welcome Timon back to Willem II and wish him every success”, emphasizes technical director Joris Mathijsen.
