FC Emmen is renting Reda Kharchouch this season from Sparta Rotterdam, both clubs report via the official channels on Tuesday afternoon. The 25-year-old center striker still has six to eight weeks to recover from a hamstring injury, but will then join Emmen’s selection. The club from the Kitchen Champion Division has negotiated an option to buy in the negotiations with Sparta.
“It was no secret that we were looking for a different type of striker so that we have more options offensively,” says technical manager Michel Jansen van Emmen. “Reda has already proven to find it right in the Kitchen Champion Division and he was also valuable with his substitutes at Sparta. It is now important for him to get fit and then join the selection as soon as possible.” Technical director Henk van Stee of Sparta says that Kharchouch has not been able to bring what Sparta had hoped, partly due to injuries. “But at this stage of his career it is important for him to play weekly. We cannot offer him that guarantee, so this is the best option for both parties at the moment.”
The development of Kharchouch seemed to be going very fast, after he was stolen by Telstar from the amateurs of OFC Oostzaan in the summer of 2019. He quickly found his place in professional football and in the season interrupted by the corona crisis, he was good for 22 goals and 4 assists in 30 official games for Telstar, earning him a transfer to Sparta. However, at the start of the preparation for the 2020/21 season, he was injured, forcing him to undergo meniscus surgery. In the end, he played nineteen matches in the Eredivisie last season, all as a substitute. On behalf of Sparta he was good for two goals.
Kharchouch played in preparation for the new season on July 31 against Excelsior (0-3 win), but then suffered a tear in his hamstring. He was not part of the selection for the first league match against FC Utrecht (4-0 defeat). Because of the option to buy stipulated by Emmen, there is a chance that Kharchouch has already played his last game for Sparta. “At Emmen he will be given the opportunity to pick up his old level again,” predicts Van Stee. The attacker’s contract at Het Kasteel runs for one year; Sparta has the option to extend the contract for another year.
