Kenneth Perez said in the program last week The Ultimate Preview by ESPN that he would have preferred to see Joshua Zirkzee make the switch to Feyenoord. The twenty-year-old striker is being loaned out by Bayern Munich to Anderlecht this season, what the analyst called ‘a club in ruins’. He was faced with threats from Belgium via social media, Perez says in conversation with The newspapaer.

“After my statements, I suddenly received threats from your country on social media. Pretty intense and special,” Perez tells the Belgian newspaper. Zirkzee has started well at Anderlecht with two goals in three games, but the analyst still maintains his opinion that he would have preferred to see him play at Feyenoord. “Look, to be honest, we don’t know Joshua Zirkzee very well in the Netherlands. He exchanged Feyenoord for Bayern as a fifteen-year-old. We saw him come in from time to time in Munich and score.”

“Then you undoubtedly have qualities, but you cannot make a real value judgment based on those raids. He now needs a lot of playing minutes and I think he can develop best in a familiar environment. So at Feyenoord,” Perez continues. Especially the statement that Anderlecht is ‘a club in ruins’, caused bad blood in Belgium. It is believed that Feyenoord is not in much better shape. “I based my judgment mainly on the developments of recent years at Anderlecht. Such a big club with such a history that finished eighth two years ago and only fourth last season.”

Perez: “Such a shame for that boy that he goes to a club in ruins”

“How many coaches and sporting directors have they had lately? In Belgium, there is also often an emotional response. When things don’t go well, everything has to change. Zirkzee has now scored twice, but that is only one game. What if things don’t go as planned?”, emphasizes the analyst. Perez agrees that there is not much difference between the Netherlands and Belgium, but would have liked to see Zirkzee come home to a familiar environment. “That familiar feeling could have helped Zirkzee.”

Perez emphasizes that Feyenoord is now on the right track under Arne Slot. “I only know that Zirkzee would always have been the first choice at Feyenoord. I especially hope that he will soon break through as an attacker. Neither Anderlecht nor Feyenoord can pay the salary he has at Bayern. A lot of young guys need a loan to make it. Let’s hope Zirkzee took the right detour.”
