Felix Götze, the 23-year-old brother of PSV midfielder Mario Götze, has been in hospital since Sunday with a skull base fracture. The player of 1. FC Kaiserslautern sustained the injury during the away match against Viktoria Berlin (4-0). “He is in intensive care for further examination, but given the circumstances, he is doing well,” Kaiserslautern said.

Halfway through the second half, Götze collided hard with opponent Marvin Senger in a header duel. Teammates provided first aid, after which he was carried off the field on a stretcher. Götze was then taken to hospital in Berlin. He announced that he is doing well on social media. “Thank you for all the get well wishes, I’m doing well so far,” he writes on Instagram.

The Telegraph reports that Mario Götze is expected to travel to Portugal with PSV. The selection of trainer Roger Schmidt will board a plane to Lisbon on Monday, where the important game against Benfica is scheduled for Wednesday evening. The winner of the double meeting with the Portuguese top club qualifies for the group stage of the Champions League.

Felix Götze played in the youth academy of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. However, there was no breakthrough in the main force. In the summer of 2018, he made a free transfer to FC Augsburg. In February, the Bundesliga club chose to loan him to Kaiserslautern until mid-2022, who will play in the third tier in Germany.
