Erik ten Hag has once again confirmed that he is charmed by Steven Bergwijn. According to the Ajax trainer, the attacker of Tottenham Hotspur fits seamlessly into the profile drawn up by the club in the search for a new reinforcement for the vanguard. Ten Hag announced at the press conference prior to Saturday’s first competition match against NEC that Ajax is still looking for a new attacker.

Ajax has set its sights on a fast attacker who can handle the striker. Journalist Mike Verweij asks at the press conference how frustrating it is for Ten Hag that his selection is not yet complete, since Ajax already became champion on May 2 and the trainer expressed his wish for a new in-depth attacker during the training camp in Austria. “Not only in Austria, but from the start that was our target. But we do set the bar high. The market is not really moving, except in the top segment,” Ten Hag responds.

“As a trainer you have to be able to accept certain things. Last year I really wanted to have a number 9, but that was only possible in the winter (with Sébastien Haller, ed.). We solved it in a different way and we stood also at the top”, the Ajax trainer indicates. “Some things I will have to accept if the possibilities do not present themselves. It will be a different story if the possibilities do present themselves and it still does not work out, but that is not the case now.”

Ten Hag is then asked whether he can explain ‘in a general sense’ why Bergwijn would be a good player for Ajax. “Because he fits the profile. We have a list with a limited number of players on it. That has to do with the quality requirements we set. We are in continuous contact with the various parties and we will see if it will work.” before it’s August 31.” Two and a half weeks ago, journalist Fabrizio Romano said Tottenham has no intention of selling Bergwijn. Ajax previously inquired with Tottenham about a possible rental period, but that was also unnegotiable at the time.
