There is little chance that Feyenoord will get rid of Mark Diemers this summer. The midfielder is struggling with a knee injury and is forced to put a transfer out of his mind, you know Feyenoord Transfermarkt. Diemers seemed to be on his way to the exit, as he was told by trainer Arne Slot that there is no prominent role for him next season. A suitable solution is still being looked for in the winter, it sounds like.

A departure from Diemers would have been interesting for both parties, as Feyenoord could use the money from a transfer in the search for a new striker. The club management of the Rotterdammers would also save the necessary money in salary. Football International knew a week and a half ago that technical director Frank Arnesen would not lie down for a summer transfer. However, those plans can put a line through the injury.

Diemers, who will turn 28 in October, made the switch from Fortuna Sittard to Feyenoord a year ago, even though the Limburgers had an agreement with FC Groningen at an earlier stage. Diemers, however, really wanted to make a transfer to Feyenoord and that’s how it happened. Last season, he made 38 appearances in all competitions. The midfielder appeared at the starting signal in 23 of his 30 Eredivisie appearances, played two matches in the TOTO KNVB Cup and was in the starting lineup in each of the six Europa League matches. He had three goals and four assists.

Feyenoord paid Fortuna a transfer fee of approximately one million euros for Diemers and will want to recoup as much of this investment as possible. According to Feyenoord Transfermarkt there was interest from several countries. Hajduk Split, AEK Athens, Panathinaikos and the Hungarian Fehérvár would have liked both parties to get rid of each other. Diemers’ name was also associated with sc Heerenveen, where he should form an exchange deal with Joey Veerman.
