Lionel Messi has signed with Paris Saint-Germain for a net annual salary of no less than 41 million euros, so assure RMC Sports and Le Parisien. The 34-year-old Argentinian also earns an amount of 40 million euros in signing premium. Messi has signed for at least two years and is therefore assured of a sum of 121 million euros. His contract includes an option for a third year.

With this, Messi will receive the salary that corresponds to his star status. French media previously spoke of a net salary of 35 million euros per year, but according to RMC and Le Parisien the amount is therefore 6 million euros higher. Messi thus becomes the highest paid player of Paris Saint-Germain and surpasses the star players Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. It is also a record for the French league, where such a salary has never been paid.

Messi is going backwards on paper with that. His salary at Barcelona was estimated at €50 million net per year, excluding bonuses. It should be noted that Barca knocked on the door of its players several times in the past year to hand in hefty salaries, which Messi also complied with. The salary that the attacker received in the last twelve months was therefore a lot lower.
