Barcelona are confident they can start LaLiga with Memphis Depay on Sunday against Real Sociedad. The Catalans have still not been allowed to register the 27-year-old acquisition for the Spanish league, but according to Sport made progress in the process. The time for this is until Friday evening 23:59.

The problem for Barcelona is the salary cap set by LaLiga. The club spends more money on wages than allowed and is therefore not allowed to register its new players for the time being. Barça is negotiating with LaLiga to relax the criteria and, according to Sport found a possible way out for Depay. Barça relies on the contract structure of the the Dutch international, which is mainly paid in bonuses, more than in base salary.

Ronald Koeman is aware of the situation and is counting on Depay in the Camp Nou on Sunday, it sounds like. That also applies to Emerson Royal, who was bought back from Real Betis this summer. Barcelona confirms to Spanish media that Emerson is not considered a ‘new addition’ under LaLiga rules and has therefore already been registered. The right wing defender battles with Sergiño Dest and Sergi Roberto for a starting spot.

Barcelona will not sign Eric García and Sergio Aguero until Saturday, when the closing period for the opening game closes, but the pair could not play anyway. García is still on holiday after his participation in the Olympic Games with Spain, while Aguero is sidelined until November due to a calf injury.
