Marouan Azarkan makes the switch to Excelsior on a rental basis, Feyenoord announced through the official channels. The Rotterdammers accidentally announced the news last Thursday, while a new rental period has not yet been fully completed. The temporary transfer from Azarkan to Excelsior has now been announced.

“Admin: * Publishes message (again) * Success in Kralingen, Marouan”, Feyenoord writes on Twitter, with a wink to last week’s mistake. The press release about the temporary transfer from Azarkan to Excelsior could already be read on the Feyenoord website. Painful mistake on the Feyenoord website, where the news about Marouan Azarkan to Excelsior was posted too early. Feyenoord Transfermarkt, which initially shared the message on Feyenoord’s website via Twitter. Despite the fact that Excelsior was expressly interested, a lease had not yet been concluded.

Feyenoord Transfermarkt came on Sunday evening with the message that Azarkan had chosen Excelsior over NAC Breda and Roda JC Kerkrade, who also wanted to hire him. “Marouan is a talented player who needs to make many minutes”, technical director Frank Arnesen explains on the Feyenoord website. “The opportunities for him at Feyenoord are limited this year, so it’s good that he can work at Excelsior. We have had good experiences with youth players who have been loaned out there and have come back stronger, so we are confident that this will also be the case for Marouan.”

Azarkan has been part of Feyenoord’s youth academy since 2012. In September 2019, the wing attacker made his debut in the main squad, by coming in as a substitute against ADO Den Haag. A year later he played his second official game for Feyenoord, but he didn’t get any further for the time being. He spent the past six months on a rental basis at NAC Breda, for whom he played eleven official matches. Azarkan was not in Arne Slot’s plans, as he was not part of the selection in the Conference League games.
