Adidas, the clothing sponsor of Juventus, has entered into discussions with the club about a tweet that appeared on the account of the Juventus women’s team on Thursday. The club posted a photo of defender Cecilia Salvai portraying an Asian by putting a training hat on her head and making squinting eyes. Juventus have already apologized for the tweet, which many on social media have called racist.

The photo, taken during a training camp in Barcelona, was posted on the Juventus Women page for 20 minutes and was then removed after thousands of people commented on it. “We sincerely apologize that our tweet, which was not intended to spark controversy or contain racial undertones, may have offended people. Juventus has always been against discrimination and racism.”

An hour after the tweet was deleted, the photo was still visible on the club’s website, where it was subsequently removed. Adidas is not pleased with the tweet. “Adidas condemns racism, both consciously and unconsciously. There is no place for racism in sport and society and we are discussing the matter with the club,” a spokesperson said. Sky Sports.
