Football players and clubs are more active than ever on social media in 2021. Top players such as Memphis Depay, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic give a glimpse into their (private) lives almost daily via Instagram, Twitter or other internet channels. In the run-up to the match between FC Luzern and Feyenoord in the third heat of the Conference League, the Lucerne Zeitung the expected line-up of both teams. The eleven names in Feyenoord’s expected line-up match the prediction of the General Newspaper, although the name of Jens Toornstra is misspelled: he is referred to by the Swiss newspaper as ‘Toornstrasse’, or ‘Toornstraat’.

Feyenoord noticed the mistake: in a tweet from the club, the municipality of Rotterdam is tagged. “The Jens Toornstraat, we are ahead”, the club writes with a wink. The newspaper responds to the tweet: “Oops, we apologize.” Feyenoord will appear in Switzerland at 8.30 p.m. and hopes to take a first step towards the last preliminary round of the Europa League. If that is achieved, the opponent will be IF Elfsborg (Sweden) or FK Velez (Bosnia-Herzegovina).
