Wesley Fofana apparently suffered a serious injury on Wednesday evening. In Leicester City’s friendly against Villarreal, the midfielder suffered a dangerous tackle from Fernando Niño. Fofana immediately screamed in pain, after which the seriousness of the injury became clear. The media in England are horrified at the need for such a charge in an exhibition game.

Judging by the images, Fofana appears to have suffered a broken ankle. The injury made a big impression on the Leicester City players and in particular on Caglar Söyüncü, his partner in the defense of the Foxes. Leicester City’s medical staff quickly arrived and after about five minutes he left the field on a stretcher. The 17,000 spectators at King Power Stadium gave Fofana, one of the crowd favorites, a standing ovation.

For Leicester City, a long absence from Fofana would be a hard blow. The Champions League participant has already considered getting a central defender because Jonny Evans is still struggling with a lingering foot injury. Brendan Rodgers can put Daniel Amartey or Filip Benkovic next to Söyüncü, or he can also choose to take Wilfred Ndidi back a line, just like last season.

At the time of Fofana’s injury, Leicester City were leading 3-0 thanks to hits from Soyuncü, Harvey Barnes and Ayoze Perez. In the final phase, Niño and Álex Millán narrowed the disadvantage: 3-2. It was the last friendly game for Leicester City. This Saturday the battle against Manchester City for the Community Shield awaits.
