Lex Immers has continued his football career after all. The 35-year-old midfielder stopped as a professional football player earlier this summer by handing in his one-year contract at NAC Breda, but on Thursday he will report to Scheveningen in the Second Division. After some distance from football, it was clear to the ex-player of ADO Den Haag and Feyenoord, among others, that he still likes the game too much to stop completely.

“Excited about the possible combination of more family time, working in a family member’s company and playing at a high amateur level at a nearby club with which he has a longstanding relationship, he made the decision last weekend. to come and play for Scheveningen”, Scheveningen reports on the club site. The amateur club did not play any matches for almost a full year due to the corona crisis, but the new season will start on August 21 at the third level.

“Scheveningen is a conscious choice for me and with its location against The Hague the most logical”, explains the Hagenaar, who has played more than 450 matches as a professional football player. “The presence of trainer John Blok, whom I, like several people at the club, have known for some time, also plays a major role in this. I’m attracted to the environment, the people and the club and want to be a part of it as long as I can. Not only because I like that myself, but I also want to help the club and selection with my background and experience in every possible way and together ensure that many people come to Houtrust for a nice game of football.”

“Fantastic for us, and for football in The Hague, that Lex is finishing his career in his own city,” Blok emphasizes. “His choice not only says something about the football fan, but also about Lex Immers as a person. With his personality, qualities and experience, he really adds something to the qualities already present within the selection. In addition, Lex, together with the experienced players already present, can play a great role in the development of many other players.”

Ron Cramer says on behalf of the technical committee that the financial possibilities in the Second Division are limited. “Normally, as Scheveningen, you quickly give up on players in this category, but in Lex we now meet someone who finds other things much more important and not only says that but also acts on it. This is not only good for the selection, but also fun for supporters, sponsors and youth players who can also be supporters of ADO Den Haag or Feyenoord. In addition, Lex is also just a really nice guy who fits perfectly with the club.”
