Roger Schmidt does not want to discuss Mohamed Ihattaren’s situation at the PSV press conference on Monday afternoon, prior to the duel with FC Midtjylland in the third Champions League preliminary round. The PSV trainer normally answers questions from the press about the attacking midfielder, but now refers to a statement that PSV shared with the outside world on Saturday.

“I have often said something about this at the press conferences,” Schmidt responds to the question of journalist Joep Schreuder whether he considers the impending break with Ihattaren a personal defeat. “The club announced something on Saturday and that’s all, so I don’t want to comment.” When asked, Schmidt agrees that he wants to have unity in the team in the run-up to the duel with Midtjylland.

As of today, Ihattaren will follow an individual training program on the PSV Campus, it was announced. That means that he will no longer train with the highest selection corps of PSV and will not be selected for the Champions League matches with FC Midtjylland and the match against Ajax for the Johan Cruijff Scale. The club accused Ihattaren that he “has not fulfilled a number of agreements with the club”.

Last week, in the run-up to meeting Galatasaray in the Champions League, Ihattaren called in sick for the fifth time in eight months. It was circulated within the player group that Ihattaren had earaches. A few days later, however, the midfielder was able to fly to Nice and meet his agent Mino Raiola.
