Ryan Babel will be on the reserve bench against PSV on Wednesday, Fatih Terim reported on Tuesday at the press conference. After the disappointment in Eindhoven (5-1 loss), the Galatasaray trainer chooses Mostafa Mohamed instead of the 34-year-old Dutchman. Terim is also partly in his own bosom with regard to last week’s defeat.

Remarkably enough, Terim already announced Galatasaray’s complete line-up for the return game in the second preliminary round of the Champions League at the press moment. The Turks return in a 4-3-3 formation, while the Philips Stadium started in a system with three centre-backs. DeAndre Yedlin and Baris Yilmaz will also be in the team against PSV. Patrick van Aanholt, who signed with Galatasaray last week, is not yet in the party.

Galatasaray had no chance against PSV last Wednesday. “Sometimes you come up with a tactic and it doesn’t work out well,” Terim said. “We started with a three-man defense. We hoped to hold out and give away few chances because we knew that PSV would put pressure quickly and high. Within a few minutes we switched back to 4-3-3.”

Terim also has another explanation for his team’s weak performance. “Right after the competition, we lost eleven players,” the coach recalled. “Due to the financial problems and a penalty from UEFA, we have been sentenced to transfer-free players or hire from other clubs. Bad things happen to me all the time, but I never complain about it. I made a tactical mistake. Okay, I admit that. But that’s why we didn’t lose. We lost players, others got injured or got corona.”
