Jeroen Elshoff is not the commentator on Saturday afternoon at the match between the women’s teams of the Netherlands and Brazil at the Olympic Games. On Saturday morning, Elshoff announced on Twitter that he had tested positive for the corona virus. He flew to Tokyo last Saturday with KLM flight KL861; previously, several athletes had already tested positive after traveling on that plane.

“Not soon at the Netherlands-Brazil”, writes Elshoff, who also commented during the opening game against Zambia (3-10), on his account. “Unfortunately and to my own surprise I tested positive and so I have to go to a Japanese quarantine hotel. Shocked, shocked, but healthy and in good spirits. I was also on the now well-known KL861 flight. It is what it is, all the time now to to enjoy sports on TV.” The NOS has not yet announced who will replace Elshoff during the second group match of the the Dutch Lionesses at the Olympic Games. The game starts at 1:00 PM.

There were several dozen athletes and supervisors from TeamNL on the plane, crisscrossing the aircraft. Three athletes who were on the plane have already tested positive: skateboarder Candy Jacobs, taekwondoka Reshmie Oogink and rower Rower Finn Florijn. A supervisor from the rowing team also turned out to be infected with the corona virus. It was the busiest flight to Tokyo in recent times in terms of number of athletes. All athletes and supervisors boarded the aircraft with at least three negative tests. The three athletes who tested positive were all vaccinated.
