Donyell Malen is about to leave PSV for Borussia Dortmund. It Eindhovens Dagblad reported Friday evening that the attacker will undergo a medical examination in Switzerland this weekend by his new club. Youri Mulder and Bert van Marwijk applaud Malen’s choice for Borussia Dortmund and are extremely enthusiastic about the purchase policy of the German club

“It’s very easy: you need money to do this. And they didn’t have that before,” says Mulder in conversation with the General Newspaper about Borussia Dortmund’s purchasing policy. “They have earned a lot of money through a very good scouting policy. Such as with the transfer of Shinji Kagawa, who they sold for sixteen million to Manchester United. The choices they are making now are in a higher segment and are much less risky. Sancho, Haaland, Jude Bellingham and now Malen. They are not difficult choices.”

“They see in him a player whose market value can double, otherwise they won’t get him. And they are often right,” continues the former striker of Schalke 04. He states that there is an atmosphere at Borussia Dortmund that radiates ‘when you come here, you become a better player and you grow’. “I think Malen will succeed. He could be a new Aubameyang. He hasn’t come as far as Aubameyang has come yet, but Malen is on his way there. I expect he can hold on to that.”

Van Marwijk, who worked as a trainer at Borussia Dortmund, is also full of praise for the scouting apparatus. The coach calls the German club ‘an ideal intermediate step for players who have outgrown the Dutch competition, but who are not yet able to make the step to Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester City’. “At Dortmund you can play financially independent, play in an amazing stadium with 81,000 supporters every week, compete for the championship and train in fantastic accommodation. It’s just a really good club.”
