SC Heerenveen wants to seriously work on the arrival of Sven van Beek, the knows Leeuwarder Courant report on Sunday afternoon. The centre-back, who will be celebrating his 27th birthday at the end of July, is an attractive option for the Frisian club due to his transfer-free status. Van Beek is without a club after he left Willem II at the end of last season

Van Beek played a few months on a rental basis for Willem II in the 2020/21 season, which managed to avert relegation from the Eredivisie just in the nick of time. The strong mandekker eventually left Tilburg with fourteen games to his name. Upon returning to Feyenoord, Van Beek was soon told that his expiring contract in De Kuip would not be extended. As a result, the defender trained by the Rotterdam club can be picked up transfer-free since 1 July.

Heerenveen trainer Johnny Jansen is according to the Leeuwarder Courant urgently seeking reinforcements for the heart of the defence. In terms of Eredivisie experience, the selector in the Frisian service currently only has Pawel Bochniewicz and Ibrahim Dresevic. Jansen had hoped for a continuation of the collaboration with Jan Paul van Hecke, but the central defender has now returned to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Van Beek now has to fill that void in the Abe Lenstra Stadium. In addition, the former Feyenoord player must provide more options and competition in the back line of Heerenveen. It is not yet known whether Van Beek and his management have already spoken about a possible deal in Friesland. Van Beek was a permanent fixture at Feyenoord for years, but due to injuries, he ended up on the second plan. In South Rotterdam he played a total of 153 times.
