Riqui Puig sees no reason to leave Barcelona for the second year in a row. Sport writes on Saturday evening that the midfielder, who turns 22 next month, also enjoys and enjoyed the interest of the necessary clubs this transfer summer. A year ago, despite the fact that Ronald Koeman suggested a temporary departure, he did not want a rental and this year he wants to stay with the Catalans. Ajax, among others, knocked on Barcelona’s door, so assured Sport.

According to the best-selling sports newspaper in Catalonia, Granada, Celta de Vigo, clubs from England and Germany, and Ajax showed orienting and concrete interest. The Barcelona board have reportedly studied all options carefully, but have always left the final decision with Puig himself. Sport writes that the midfielder has declined all offers ‘because he wants to develop at Barcelona’.

It was Ronald Koeman who informed Puig a year ago that he would do better to let himself be hired, but the talent did not want that. The midfielder eventually made 24 games, in which he played 581 minutes. Puig scored once when he came in (0-2) in the away game against Elche and was immediately accurate. Perhaps the highlight for the Spaniard was when he converted the fifth penalty against Real Sociedad in the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup and sent his team to the final.

That Puig again refuses to leave, according to Sport however, positively received within the club. Koeman sees Puig as a full-fledged player of the A-selection and it is up to the midfielder to determine whether he will make minutes in the first of los Azulgrana. Puig’s contract runs for two more seasons, until mid-2023, after an option for two additional contract years has been lifted.
