Ajax convincingly won its exhibition game on Friday evening when visiting Anderlecht (0-2). Erik ten Hag was very pleased with his team’s performance afterwards and was also asked about Steven Berghuis. The arrival of the right winger was officially confirmed by Ajax on Friday. “We are very happy with it”, Ten Hag said in front of the camera of ESPN.

“Steven is a player who has creativity, who has the appearance of an Ajax player and who can link that to efficiency. He will certainly add something.” Ajax played against Anderlecht without Berghuis on Friday, because the wing striker is still on holiday and will then undergo a medical examination. Next week, the the Dutch-international will join in Amsterdam.

Ten Hag already had frequent contact with Berghuis. It also discussed the sensitivity of his transfer from Feyenoord to Ajax. “We spoke well and that item was also discussed, but we want to raise the bar and Steven wants that too. We have a common challenge and we are happy to take on it together.”

Ajax beat Anderlecht thanks to two goals from Sébastien Haller. “It was a good test, which we passed excellently,” said Ten Hag. “We have imposed the will on a club with the stature of Anderlecht, a team that is one week before the start of the competition, then you have done an excellent job.” Ten Hag also briefly discussed the contract extension of captain Dusan Tadic, who signed for a year. “We need such characters, they are rare. Dusan is a pearl. His appearance and attitude are great. That gives energy to others and he draws others along. He is an example for everyone, but certainly also for younger players .”
