VfL Wolfsburg has strengthened itself with Lukas Nmecha, the club reports through the official channels on Friday evening. The Germany Under-21 international is reported to be transferring for a fee of between eight and thirteen million euros from Manchester City, who have negotiated a buy-back option and a 15% resale rate. With the arrival of 22-year-old Nmecha, who signs for four seasons in the Volkswagen Arena, Wout Weghorst gets a serious competitor in the striker position.

Various German media and Transfermarkt report that a lower amount is involved in the transfer: eight million euros. Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano contradicts the reporting and reports that it concerns an amount of thirteen million euros. It is not the first time that Nmecha wears the shirt the Wölfe will wear, because in the first half of the 2019/20 season he already played on a rental basis for Wolfsburg.

It was no secret that trainer Mark van Bommel was looking for reinforcements in the vanguard. Last week it became clear that the door was being opened for Weghorst. Director Jörg Schmadtke indicated that interested clubs may report. It is not yet known what the exact consequences of bringing in Nmecha will be for Weghorst’s chances. It is clear that an attacker with a lot of potential has been brought in.

Nmecha stood out in a positive way during the last European Under-21 Championship. The striker left an excellent impression on behalf of Germany, which crowned itself European champion. Nmecha was accurate four times in the tournament and scored one of his goals against the Dutch Juniors. The attacker was unable to break through at City, but during his last loan period at Anderlecht he scored 18 goals in 37 league games.
