Dean Henderson praises Harry Maguire, who just missed the European title with England on Sunday. According to the reserve goalkeeper of Manchester United, the central defender is now one of the absolute top in Europe. Henderson even thinks that Maguire has come to the Red Devils has grown to the level of Virgil van Dijk.

“How can you have doubts about Harry Maguire? That is really impossible”, Henderson opens in an interview with talkSPORT. “He is in every game in the starting lineup at Manchester United, the biggest club in the world. In addition, he always gives one hundred percent. Unfortunately you cannot excel in every game, nobody is perfect. But Harry is definitely a top-class central defender and I would even put him in the same category as Virgil van Dijk. I will be right about that in the coming years, because Harry will only get better and better.”

Maguire formed the heart of England’s defense at the European Championship together with John Stones, which managed to advance to the final. In the seven matches in the final round, the Three Lions five games in a row the ‘zero’. It was only in the semi-final against Denmark (2-1 victory) that the first goal was scored. In the final against Italy (1-1), Leonardo Bonucci scored the second goal. Maguire shot flawlessly in the penalty shootout, although it was not enough for the European title.

Henderson also looks back on the drama that hit him shortly after the start of the European Championship. He had to retire early due to a hip injury. “After a difficult season, I really wanted to start fit for the European Championships, so I was very brave when I reported to the training camp. I quickly realized that I couldn’t dive during the training sessions. After a week it was already time ended and that really hit me hard,” concludes Henderson.
