Manchester United will attempt to free Eduardo Camavinga from Stade Rennes. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports on Monday that the English top club has made contacts to attract the French top talent. Stade Rennes would like to cooperate in a summer deal. Camavinga’s contract expires in mid-2022, so the club fears that he will be left with nothing if he is not sold this transfer window.

According to Romano, eighteen-year-old Camavinga has been on Manchester United’s wish list for quite some time. The Italian journalist reports on Twitter that Stade Rennes would like to negotiate for a potential transfer of thirty million euros. That amount appears to be well below its current market value; Transfermarkt currently estimates the value of the French top talent at 55 million euros.

RMC Sports previously reported that Camavinga had made the decision not to renew his contract with Stade Rennes. The four-time international would have indicated that he would like to develop further in France; Paris Saint-Germain, which is also interested, would be his dream destination. Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the president of the Paris superpower, reportedly contacted Nicolas Holveck, the president of Stade Rennes, at the end of May to officially inform him of the interest. At the time, a transfer sum of one hundred million euros was mentioned.

Camavinga made his debut at the age of sixteen in the main squad of Stade Rennes and has made 82 games so far. National coach Didier Deschamps brought him into the French national team and let him play four times. Due to the stiff competition in the midfield, Camavinga was not part of the French European Championship selection. If a switch to Manchester United goes ahead, Donny van de Beek will get another competitor.

Manchester United have already received the first purchase for the new season. Jadon Sancho comes from Borussia Dortmund for a maximum of 95 million euros. He is signing for five years, with an option for another season. The Premier League club is also reportedly working on the arrival of Raphaël Varane. The French defender is said to have already agreed on a multi-year contract at Old Trafford and it is now up to the Red Devils to agree on the transfer fee with Real Madrid.
