The sister of Thibaut Courtois has shown her worst side with a reaction on Instagram during the quarterfinal between Belgium and Italy (1-2). Valérie Courtois accused Leonardo Spinazzola of wasting time in the closing stages of the game while the Italy defender tore his Achilles tendon, it turned out later. In the meantime, the Belgian has apologized on Instagram and wished the defender of Italy and a speedy recovery.

As Spinazzola lay groaning in pain on the turf of the Allianz Arena on Friday night, Valérie Courtois took the opportunity to post a photo on Instagram of the hapless Italian with the caption: ‘We call it trickery’. Tricks of the fair is a Belgian term for cheating. Spinazzola, however, turned out to be injured and had to be carried off the field by stretcher. The Italian Football Association confirmed on Saturday that the right-footed defender is expected to be sidelined for five to six months with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Valérie Courtois then decided to make her apologies on Saturday. “I am sad to hear that his European championship is ending this way,” the Belgian posted on Instagram with a photo of Spinazzola. “I apologize for my reaction and hope he makes a good recovery.” The game between Belgium and Italy was 77 minutes away when Spinazzola had to stop a sprint duel with Thorgan Hazard. Without the ball being close, the defender went to the ground and screamed in pain, then burst into tears.
