Johan Derksen currently sees Giovanni van Bronckhorst as the most ideal candidate to succeed Frank de Boer as national coach of the Dutch national team, he told the European Championship show on Sunday morning. Derksen believes it is time to look beyond the renowned Dutch trainers and the KNVB should give the next generation a chance. “If I analyze it properly, I think: should we bring back Dick Advocaat every time there is a problem with the Dutch national team? Or Van Gaal? Is Guus Hiddink still fit enough? These are guys who are well in their seventies and completely no longer have a future. I think: we should put an end to that with that generation. They have had their time.”
Derksen mainly refers to Louis van Gaal and Henk ten Cate, who are frequently mentioned since De Boer’s resignation. “I think Louis is a disgusting man, but a good coach,” Derksen continues. “Then you get those theatrical proposals again, I’ve seen that once. Henk has the look of an actor from a B-movie from Chicago. Henk has a bit of a semi-criminal look when he looks angry. Henk is not friendly figurehead for the KNVB and the the Dutch squad.
