The NOS has acquired the broadcasting rights for the European Championship 2024, the broadcaster confirms in a press release on Thursday. In addition, the NOS will broadcast all matches of the Dutch national team and the finals in the Nations League of 2023 and 2025 for the next five years. In this way, the long shared history between the Dutch and the NOS is maintained: all tournaments in which the Dutch national team has been active have been broadcast by the NOS.

The NOS previously seized the broadcasting rights of the 2022 World Cup (men), the qualifying matches of the the Dutch Women (until 2024) and next year’s European Football Championship for women in England. With the the Dutch women, the main international matches in the run-up to the European Championship 2022 and the European Championship itself are broadcast live by the NOS. The NOS also reports on the duels in the qualifying period for the 2023 World Cup and the European Championship 2025. Gerard Timmer, general director at NOS, is happy with the acquisition of the broadcasting rights.

“We are happy that we are the home port for everyone in the Netherlands for the matches of the Dutch national team. Both for the the Dutch Men and the the Dutch Women”, says Timmer / “Sports events such as the European Football Championship have a great connecting value. For the Dutch public, and therefore for the NOS and the public broadcaster. Halfway through this European Championship we have reached 77 percent of all Dutch people. That is 12.4 million people. We are proud that we can continue to play this role on radio, television and online in the coming years continue to interpret.”

The matches of the Dutch national team guarantee high viewing figures for the NOS. The semifinal between the Netherlands and Argentina at the 2014 World Cup is still the most watched TV moment of all time with 9.1 million viewers. the Dutch’s group matches were watched by an average of 5.4 million people (match against Ukraine), 5.5 million people (Austria) and again 5.5 million people (North Macedonia).
