Leroy Fer will act as a central defender at Feyenoord in the coming weeks, as you know Feyenoord Transfermarkt to be revealed on Wednesday. After the departure of Sven van Beek and Eric Botteghin, Arne Slot currently does not have a right-footed center defender, as a result of which the midfielder temporarily moves back a line. The new Feyenoord coach has come to this decision due to the injury of Lutsharel Geertruida.

Geertruida injured his knee in Feyenoord’s last league match against RKC Waalwijk (3-0 victory) on May 16. Five days later, the multifunctional defender was operated on, after which he started his rehabilitation. It is not yet known exactly when Geertruida can rejoin Slot’s selection. Until his return, or in the case of an acquisition, the successor of Dick Advocaat gives Fer’s confidence in the heart of the Feyenoord defense. Norwegian Marcus Holmgren Pedersen was taken over from Sweden’s Molde FK on Tuesday for the right back position.

Feyenoord has finished the first group training and started preparing for the 2021/22 season. This Saturday, AA Gent will be the first opponent in a friendly context. It is likely that Fer is already used as a central defender by Slot in that duel. Next month the real work begins for Feyenoord, which is linked to the winner of the diptych between FK Decic and FK Drita in the second preliminary round of the Conference League. These matches are scheduled for July 22 and 29.
