Billy Gilmour has tested positive for the corona virus, the Scottish federation reported on Monday. The Scottish midfielder therefore has to miss the last crucial group match against Croatia on Tuesday evening (9 p.m.) and may therefore no longer be in action this European Championship. The Chelsea midfielder will have to self-isolate for the next ten days.

The loss of Gilmour is a major setback for Scotland, bottom of Group D. To reach the next round of the European Championship, Croatia must be beaten on Tuesday, which also only collected a point from the first two group matches. Twenty-year-old Gilmour was the big star on the side of Scotland in the game against England (0-0) last Friday.

England did not get a foothold against Scotland, thanks in part to Gilmour’s strong play. The midfielder, who recently made his national team debut against the Netherlands, sent more successful passes than all his teammates: forty. He captured the ball eight times and made two successful tackles. Fifteen minutes before the end of the game, he left the field exhausted.
