Marco van Ginkel returns to PSV for the fifth time in his career, so it knows Eindhovens Dagblad to report. The regional newspaper writes that the Eindhoven residents and the 28-year-old midfielder have agreed on a multi-year contract, although the exact conditions are still unclear for the time being. Provided no crazy things happen, Van Ginkel will be present at the first training next week.

Van Ginkel was in possession of an expiring contract at Chelsea and it already looked like he would stay at PSV. The midfielder already played on a rental basis in Eindhoven last season, where he was recovering from a serious knee injury. In January he made his comeback for PSV after 983 days of injury. “It has been very tough emotionally and mentally,” said Van Ginkel in conversation with the NOS. “It’s been a long period. I’ve always believed in a return. I’ve been through a lot, many operations.”

In the past season, Van Ginkel played eleven games for PSV, three of which as a basic player. Now that Van Ginkel will return to Eindhoven after the summer, it means his fifth term at PSV. The midfielder exchanged Vitesse for Chelsea in 2013, which first leased him to AC Milan and Stoke City. In February 2016, Van Ginkel left for PSV for the first time and then played in four terms for the Eindhoven team. Now he will sign an actual contract with PSV for the first time, which is expected to be a multi-year contract.

At the same time, it means that after eight years, Van Ginkel’s employment at Chelsea will come to an end. In the end, he only made four appearances in the main squad of the Blues. After Joël Drommel, André Ramalho and Philipp Mwene, Van Ginkel is PSV’s fourth summer reinforcement. If all goes well, he will be on the field next week during the first training session. PSV starts preparations for the new season early, because the meeting with Galatasaray in the second preliminary round of the Champions League is already scheduled at the end of July.
