Dayot Upamecano was acquired by Bayern Munich for more than forty million euros from RB Leipzig. However, it will take a while before the French centre-back can make his appearance with the German champion. BILD reports on Wednesday that Upamecano’s contract in Munich will not start until July 15 and that he will still be a player for Leipzig until then. The club of the new coach Jesse Marsch will start preparing for the new season on July 5.
Leizig director Florian Scholz admits that it is better for all parties involved that Upamecano joins the selection of Bayern in mid-July, where Julian Nagelsmann stands for the group. “But it is true that given the current contract, this is not the case. That is why we expect to see him here at the start of the preparations for the new season. However, we will do everything we can to ensure that Dayot arrives fit at the 15th of July. Bayer”, Scholz said on Wednesday in a response to BILD. Leipzig and Bayern chose July 15 as the start date because the Leipzig club would still have Upamecano at their disposal if the Bundesliga season was postponed due to the corona pandemic.
according to BILD Leipzig leadership is prepared to let Upamecano leave for Bayern on July 1, provided the superpower takes half of the defender’s monthly salary. However, it appears that the talks between the two clubs about this have not yielded the desired result. Upamecano was finally brought in by Bayern in February. An escape clause of 43 million euros has been included in his contract, which runs until 2023.
