The cousin of Quincy Promes has spoken out for the first time almost a year after the stabbing incident at a family party in Abcoude. The Telegraph writes that he is still busy with rehabilitation, trauma processing and the search for a new purpose in his life, because he can no longer perform his work for his DIY company due to the damage to his knee. He can no longer climb stairs, run, bend and squat after a knife stab cleaved tendons and muscle tissue in his knee. Promes’ nephew does not understand why it is taking so long for justice to act and his lawyer Yehudi Moszkowicz suggests that this has to do with the upcoming European Championship.

“I had a photo taken with Quincy during the party. Later, for reasons that were unclear to me, the mood changed and I was attacked when the party was already over,” Simon Erisko tells. The Telegraph. The newspaper has used a fictitious name for the privacy of the victim. “Suddenly I saw my cousin rushing towards me with a fierce look in his eyes. I backed away and fell backwards. I think that saved my life because otherwise the knife would not have ended up in my knee but in my upper body. I immediately felt my leg getting warm from the blood.”

“I pulled myself up from someone standing next to me but could barely move my leg. That person accompanied me to the car and went to the hospital. There they were shocked by the deep stab wound. Doctors came and went and all looked very suspicious. I started to worry more and more,” Erisko continues. His lawyer emphasizes that initially there was no question of reporting, because his client wanted to resolve the matter with Promes. He was proud of Promes’ career and didn’t want to damage it, but he didn’t hear anything at all. “No phone call, no message, it was completely silent.”

Ultimately, Promes’ mother made a proposal through a lawyer to reimburse the material costs up to a maximum amount of a few thousand euros. Erisko calls this a ‘laughing’, despite the fact that in his words it is not about the money. “You can’t stab someone and then just go on with your life without accepting the consequences,” says Promes’ cousin. “Frank de Boer said he thought the sporting point of view was more important. I don’t think it’s up to him to judge that. One day the truth will come to light and how will the national coach look back on his decision?”

Cousin of Quincy Promes threatens with ‘Article 12 procedure’ for EK

According to his lawyer, Erisko fears that the Public Prosecution Service wants to lift a ruling in the case beyond the European Championship, because they do not get to see the investigation file. “If the prosecutor is indeed after that, we will initiate proceedings. The case is clear and done. Any other stabbing of this magnitude had long since been submitted to the court,” said Moszkowicz, who hopes that a decision on prosecution will be taken as soon as possible through an ‘Article 12 procedure’. Director Eric Gudde leaves on behalf of the KNVB The Telegraph know that for the football association, ‘everyone is innocent until proven otherwise’. He emphasizes that the KNVB has not requested that a ruling be lifted over the European Championship.
