It seems that things are not going well between UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and Juventus president Andrea Agnelli. The top boss of the European Football Association strongly blames Agnelli for wanting to participate in the Super League with the Italian superpower, despite the promise that Juventus was not interested in a new European top league to be formed.

“As far as I am concerned, it is a personal matter”, Ceferin leaves nothing to be desired in terms of clarity in an extensive interview with So Foot. “And in my eyes, this man (Agnelli, ed.) no longer exists. I always thought we were friends, but he just lied to me right up to the last day, saying that I shouldn’t worry The day before, however, Agnelli had already prepared all the documents necessary for the launch of the Super League,” the indignant UEFA president looks back on the commotion surrounding the eventually canceled Super League.

Ceferin regrets that the twelve founding fathers of the Super League did not want to share their plans with him. “They will have to accept the consequences of their actions. With the Super League on the horizon, all the leaders of the participating clubs were already thinking of a permanent place in the top of European football. I am also sure that these clubs no longer wanted to participate in the European competitions organized by UEFA, although there were no plans to leave their own domestic competitions.”

The UEFA president is happy that despite all the tumult, everything has ended in a fizzle. “The threat that hung in the air has disappeared,” said the relieved Ceferin. “It is now also easier to talk to these clubs about a solidarity way of working. It was a difficult fight, those 48 hours were really crazy. But let’s be clear: they will not try again. I think for the “I don’t know what happens after that, but by that time I will no longer be working in football.”
