FC Groningen requires a hefty buyout fee from De Graafschap if they want to appoint Adrie Poldervaart as a new trainer. The club from the Kitchen Champion Division sees the fifty-year-old Poldervaart as a suitable successor to the departed Mike Snoei. The problem, however, is the contract for another year and thus the high compensation that technical director Mark Fledderus wants to receive for Poldervaart.

“The ball is in De Graafschap’s court”, Fledderus explains Football International. According to the sports director, the clubs are far apart in terms of supply and demand. “It is their choice that they approach someone who still has a contract elsewhere. We don’t want to lose Adrie, because we are very happy with him. So if De Graafschap really wants him, they will have to pay us adequate compensation.”

according to the Gelderlander Poldervaart himself is also sympathetic to a position as head coach of De Graafschap, but the asking price of FC Groningen is ‘many times higher than the amount that De Graafschap can and is willing to pay’. Poldervaart extended his contract until mid-2022 last season.

Poldervaart joined FC Groningen in 2019 as the second man behind head coach Danny Buijs. In the 2018/19 season he was head coach at Excelsior, but he resigned after disappointing results. He had previously worked as a physiotherapist at the Rotterdam club for 26 years.

Poldervaart was active with the amateurs for most of his coaching career. He trained, among others, VV Spijkenisse, VV Zwaluwen and BVV Barendrecht. In 2015 he received the Rinus Michels Award for the best trainer in amateur football.
