Following Thomas Tuchel, Thiago Silva has also extended his contract with Chelsea. The Champions League winner reports on Friday that the center defender is now stuck at Stamford Bridge until mid-2022. The old contract of Silva, who took over from Paris Saint-Germain last year, expired in a few weeks. Chelsea have now therefore raised the option to extend the partnership for at least one season.

Silva made the transfer from PSG to Chelsea last year and in his first season with the Blues the 36-year-old defender made 34 appearances in all competitions. In the final of the Champions League against Manchester City (0-1), the Brazilian was forced to leave before the break with an injury. In the final battle of the FA Cup against Leicester City (0-1 defeat), Silva did participate for ninety minutes. However, he was unable to prevent Chelsea’s defeat at Wembley.
Chelsea released the news about Tuchel’s contract extension earlier this Friday. The German manager was initially given an 18-month contract, with the caveat that it would be extended should he seize the Champions League. With that, Chelsea keeps their word and Tuchel is now stuck until mid-2024.
