FC Twente wants to permanently take over Václav Cerny from FC Utrecht. The Czech winger already played on a rental basis in Enschede last season. However, due to a serious knee injury, he has been sidelined for months and a return is not yet in sight. Nevertheless, Twente has a lot of confidence in the ex-Ajacied and wants to hire him for several years. With a view to the new season, technical director Jan Streuer also hopes for deals with Ajax, Benfica and Manchester City.

Cerny, 23, has been recovering from a cruciate ligament injury for months. Before he got injured, he was good for six goals and six assists in sixteen Eredivisie games on behalf of the Tukkers. At an earlier stage, both parties expressed the wish to continue together for longer. At the time, a new lease deal was being considered, but Twente is now in talks with Utrecht to take over Cerny definitively. The Czech’s contract in the Domstad continues for another year. The contract includes an option for another year. “There is a risk to that, because we don’t know when he will be fit again. But we take that risk because we think Václav is an important and attractive player. He is a real crowd pleaser,” Streuer says in TC Tubantia.

Where Twente hopes to attract Cerny, Utrecht has in turn expressed its interest in Queensy Menig. The attacker himself has indicated that he is open to a new club. For Streuer, it is not an option to trade Menig for Cerny. “You have to see this separately from each other,” said the technical director. According to the regional newspaper, Utrecht is not the only club interested in Menig; AEK Athens also listens to his arrival. It was previously announced that Twente will take over Lars Unnerstall transfer-free from PSV and that Kik Pierie will be rented from Ajax for another season. Streuer hopes for another deal with Ajax, because he has still not given up hope for the arrival of Jurgen Ekkelenkamp. Furthermore, Twente is in talks with Manchester City to hire Luka Ilic for another year. There are also talks with Benfica to take over Tyronne Ebuehi on a rental basis for another year.
